What he talks about

Interview topics

Subjects Dr. Allen covers in depth in the book and sees every week in clinic. Each works as a full episode or a single segment.

01

Why "normal" labs don't mean well

How reference ranges are actually built, why a result inside the range says almost nothing about how a person functions, and what the Gray Zone between disease and optimal health looks like from the exam room.

02

The silent epidemic of hypothyroidism

Cold hands, thinning outer eyebrows, puffiness, constipation, brain fog — the pattern that gets missed when TSH alone is the whole workup, and why Hashimoto's patients are told to wait.

03

What the WHI headlines got wrong

The Women's Health Initiative, the testosterone cardiovascular scare, and the prostate cancer myth — what the corrected data shows, and the twenty years of care shaped by the original headlines.

04

Perimenopause, PCOS, and andropause

The three transitions patients are most often told to simply live with. What is actually happening physiologically, and what a thorough evaluation includes beyond the standard panel.

05

Insulin resistance before diabetes

HOMA-IR and the triglyceride-to-HDL ratio — two markers that can shift before glucose or A1c becomes clearly abnormal, and why lean, active people are not exempt.

06

Being dismissed by your own doctor

The emotional cost of hearing "your labs are fine" while knowing something has changed — and how patients can ask better questions of whichever physician they choose.
